flexible working

Post-Covid working practices have changed significantly, with  flexible working topping the list of key benefits looked for by existing staff and prospective employees.

It's not just working from home, there are lots of ways to introduce flexible working practices which can improve morale, retention and boost productivity as well as benefiting recruitment, improving your appeal to wider groups of individuals.

legislation

New UK Government legislation on Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023 came into force on 6 April 2024.

What are the key changes?

  • From day one of employment, employees have the statutory right to request a change to their terms and conditions relating to hours, times or place of work.
  • Employees can now make two flexible working requests in a 12-month period.
  • Employers are now required to make a decision within two months of receiving a request.
  • Employers will be required to consult with their staff before rejecting a flexible working request based on one of the eight business reasons

The Employer code of practice to accompany the new law can be found at: Code of Practice on requests for flexible working | Acas
