The Vocational Training Framework (VTF) provides sector specialist training combined with employability support such as CV application and interview guidance to individuals 16+ seeking up-skilling and progression routes to employment or those facing insecure work.
This recruitment option is open to employers across Edinburgh and the wider Edinburgh & East Scotland City Regional Deal area (ESESCRD) which includes Midlothian, East Lothian, Fife, Scottish Borders and West Lothian.
Each course is tailored specifically to employer requirements, aligning with organisational aims and live vacancies. Active employer participation is encouraged to support bespoke content, as well as building a relationship with prospective employees to enable deeper insight into the organisation and role, commitment and a more confident employee from day one.
The courses also provides all learners with one-to-one guided job search activities, thorough interview preparation and guaranteed interviews with recruiting employers for all participants.
A wide variety of sectors are covered and delivered by experienced training providers to offer vocational courses which include but are not limited to:
A sector-based work academy can last up to 6 weeks and has three main components:
• pre-employment training
• a work experience placement
• a guaranteed job interview

Edinburgh College offers a broad range of professional training, accredited courses and apprenticeships spanning different industries. These courses are available as scheduled courses or bespoke courses to meet your business needs.

There are three types of Apprenticeship available: Foundation, Modern and Graduate.
Foundation Apprenticeships are a work-based learning opportunity for senior-phase secondary school pupils. Lasting one or two years, pupils begin their Foundation Apprenticeship in S5 or S6.
Modern Apprenticeships provide the opportunity to work, earn and learn. Skills Development Scotland (SDS) contributes to the costs of training and assessing In most cases, they pay the learning provider you choose to deliver the apprenticeship. The level of contribution depends on the age of the apprenticeship, qualification level and sector.
Graduate Apprentice learning costs are now funded by the Scottish Funding Council and Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) and funding covers the full duration of the programme. Graduate Apprentices apply directly to SAAS for funding.
